Our Gunnera manicata is not frost hardy. This plant was unusual for us to acquire as normally we do not plant tender species - but it was too much of a temptation. Every year we have to cover it with its own foliage to protect it from our cold winters. It grows from nothing to a massive size each season.

We saw off its giant leaves, stack them, de-stem them, then put the leaves over the crowns of the plant and weigh them down with the very, very heavy stems. Phew!
